Strieby, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound first baseman and corner outfielder, was selected by Baseball America as being the best power hitter in the Tigers minor leagues. The listing of the top player skills in the organization was part of the top-10 prospect breakdown done annually by Baseball America.
Last season, while playing with the Double-A Erie SeaWolves of the Eastern League, Strieby hit .303 (89-for-294) in 86 games. He added 18 doubles, one triple, 19 homers and 58 RBI, drawing 57 walks. Strieby had just one year as UK’s first baseman but he made the most of it, leading UK to its first SEC Championship and earning SEC Player of the Year accolades, in addition to All-America honors. During the 2006 campaign, Strieby hit .343 with 22 doubles, 20 home runs and a then-school record 77 RBI.
