Austin Madison, the son of Coach Keith Madison, begins his first season as a student assistant with the Kentucky baseball program after spending four years in the Wildcat infield and bullpen. His primary responsibilities will be to work with infielders and pitchers.
Madison played in 73 career games under his father’s tutelage at UK. As a senior, he belted 19 hits, including a 3-for-4 performance against Cincinnati, and drove in seven runs on the year. His junior season, he saw action in 45 games, making 21 starts, and hit .232 with 13 hits and six RBI. Smacking his first collegiate home run in UK’s 11-0 win over Dayton (3/5/00), he also went 2-for-4, reached base three times, drove home one run and scored another in the Cats’ 17-0 whipping of Yale that year. In 1999, he appeared in 12 games, splitting time between the field and the mound, and doubled in his only plate appearance versus Eastern Kentucky in the Cats' 8-3 win. Later that season he scored a run in UK's 13-8 win over LSU that propelled the Cats into the SEC Tournament. His first career hit, a double, came in a 20-3 win over Murray State on Apr. 21, 1998.
Austin Lee Madison, born on Jan. 12, 1979, lettered five seasons at The Lexington Christian Academy and was voted first-team All-11th Region, first-team All-City, Most Valuable Player, Best Pitcher and Most Valuable Student-Athlete of TLCA. He lists winning the AAABA World Series as his most memorable moment in sports and enjoys fishing and reading.
