Greg Goff enters his fourth season as an assistant coach with the Wildcats after a two-year stint at Southeast Missouri State. Goff has developed a reputation as an outstanding pitching coach and will be instrumental in guiding the Cats' young staff in 2003. Goff has coached many young prospects, including Southeast Missouri hurler Ryan Spille. Spille was named an All-American by Collegiate Baseball and was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft. Goff's guidance also helped the rest of the SEMO staff, as the Indians' team earned run average was the best in their conference in 1998 and 1999. A native of Jackson, Tennessee, Goff began his collegiate coaching career at Delta State University in Mississippi where he served from 1994 until 1997. During his tenure at Delta State, Goff worked with the pitching staff, which was one of the best in the nation in Division II. Goff has coached 18 players who have gone on to play professional baseball, including eight All-American pitchers and two Division II National Players of theYear. Goff has coached on teams that advanced to the 1994 and 1996 Division II World Series and the 1998 Division I Regionals. The Statesmen also enjoyed success as a team while Goff was at DSU. Delta State had a 40-15 record in 1994 and finished third at the World Series. They advanced to the World Series again in 1996 with a 53-8 mark. Goff received an Associate's degree from Jackson State (Tenn.) Community College in 1991 and then moved on to Delta State where he earned a Bachelor's degree in 1994 and a Master's degree in 1996. Goff is married to the former Tina Newbill of Jackson, Tenn. The couple has two daughters, Kara, 3, and five-month old Kiley.
