TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Cally Macumber produced another quality performance against the strongest field she has seen all season, placing third in 20:12.15 to finish just three seconds behind the winning time at the Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State on Saturday.

Macumber's top-5 finish, followed by two more individual top-100 finishes helped the UK women's team place 15th overall in the prestigious meet. The men's team placed 35th overall.

Boisie State's Emma Bates beat Stanford's Aisling Cuffe at the finish line after the two broke away from a six-deep lead pack featuring Macumber late in the 6,000-meter race. Macumber surged past the remaining runners in the first chase group to claim third place overall.

Allison Peare and Anna Bostrom both had top-100 finishes as the two 2012 All-Southeast Region honorees placed 66th and 94th with respective times of 21:12.88 and and 21:24.20.

Freshman Cassidy Hale placed 172nd with a time of 21:55.98 and Taylor Wendler was UK's No. 5 finisher, placing 212th overall in 22:08.53.

The UK men's team placed 35th with Matt Hillenbrand as the Wildcat's top finisher as he ran his 8K cross country best time of 24:24.48.

Adam Kahleifeh was the next Wildcat to finish, placing 104th with a time of 24:38.12. Zack Beavin placed 182nd in 25:05.65, MacKay Wilson finished 234th with a time of 25:00.92 and Jared Phillips rounded out the UK top-5, placing 250th with a time of 25:29.04.

Three of the nation's top four men's teams and the most recent two women's national champions were all in the Pre-Nationals field. Many of the nation's top teams competed at Pre-Nationals to preview the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course, which will be the site of the 2013 NCAA Championships in late-November.

The women's field included nine 2012 All-Americans plus six runners who missed the honor by less than a minute at last year's NCAA Championships.

Saturday's races marked the final regular season competitions of the season for UK. The postseason begins in two weeks with the SEC Championships hosted by Florida on Friday, Nov. 1.
