Track Cats Finish Day One At Georgia Tech Invitational
Senior Beth Burkett claims eighth place in the javelin throw with a toss of 144-09.00.
ATLANTA (May 19, 2000) -- The University of Kentucky track and field squads completed day one of the Georgia Tech/Reebok Invitational Friday.
Junior Shevan Threats was looking to improve on her NCAA provisional long jump earned at last week's SEC Outdoor championships. She cleared 20 feet for the second consecutive meet, but it was not enough to overtake her personal-best jump of 20-05.75. Currently ninth in the SEC, that mark is 28th nationally.
Senior Beth Burkett claimed eighth place in the javelin throw with a toss of 144-09.00. Burkett took fifth place at the SEC Championships a week ago and is fourth on the SEC top-10 list. Her personal-best throw of 150-05.00 is only 2-02.00 shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Freshmen Hunter Spencer and Thomas Morgan finished 12th and 13th in the 1,500-meter run but will continue Saturday as they focus on the 800-meter run. Joining them in that event will be senior Jeff Limpert and freshmen Chad Johnson. Also seeing action Saturday will be senior Matt Kavanagh (hammer), freshman Janet Crawford (high jump), junior Chris Daniel (pole vault) and Threats, junior Falana Greenwell and freshman Simedele Adeagbo (triple jump).
Field events get underway with the hammer throw at 9 a.m., while the running events begin at 1 p.m.
