Track Cats Head to SEC Five-Way Meet
The University of Kentucky track and field squads will head to Athens, Ga., for a Southeastern Conference five-way meet on Saturday, March 31. Teams scheduled to join UK are host Georgia, Auburn, Arkansas and South Carolina.
The Cats return to action after taking a weekend off following their return from the Hurricane Invitational at the University of Miami in Florida. UK had 12 top-five finishes to start the outdoor season and is looking to improve upon it superb performances during the indoor season, which included its first individual SEC champion since 1996 in freshman Jeff Chakouian and six All-Americans (sophomores Chad Johnson, Hunter Spencer, Thomas Morgan and Simidele Adeagbo, freshman James Doaty, and Chakouian).
This will be no easy meet for UK, however, as the Cats will compete against some of the nations best athletes. On the mens
side, Arkansas is ranked third in the latest Trackwire Online poll, while Auburn is fifth, Georgia is 12th, and USC is 14th. In the
womens poll, Arkansas is also third, the Gamecocks are fourth, UGA is 21st and Auburn is 22nd.
Action is slated to begin at 9 a.m. on the Forrest Spec Towns Track with the mens hammer throw and concludes with the mens
1,600-meter relay at 4:44 p.m.
