KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Kentucky track and field teams completed competition at the 2003 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday, May 18 at Tom Black Track in Knoxville, Tenn. Senior Janet Crawford took second place in the women's high jump to earn All-SEC honors, while fellow senior Thomas Morgan took third place in both the 5,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the men.

The event, which suffered a three-hour delay on Saturday night due to inclement weather, began with the women's triple jump on Sunday, were UK's Simidele Adeagbo took third place with a leap of 42-09.00. Senior Matt Smothermon finished fifth in the men's high jump with a final mark of 6-09.50. The UK women's group of Adeagbo, Talonda Ingram and Kendra and Kenya Patton took fifth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.81.

In the 1,500-meter finals, Hunter Spencer finished fourth with a time of 3:46.00, a regional qualifying mark, while teammate David Freeman was ninth. On the women's side, Caitlin Phillips was seventh, finishing just ahead of fellow Wildcat Candace Leep in ninth. Beth Heimann, Brooke Patterson and Roseline Addo finished fifth through seventh in the 800 finals with Heimann's time of 2:04.48 leading the way. Jean Balan was fifth for the men in the same event with a regional time of 1:47.22.

 

 

Olubusola Adeagbo took home sixth-place honors in the 400-meter hurdles with a final time of 1:00.14.

Morgan, who finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase late on Saturday night, also finished third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:12.15. In other late night results from Saturday, Rachel Kohler took third place in the high jump behind Crawford with a leap of 5-07.75 as well. Kristen Mowrey was eighth in the event with a height of 5-05.75.

Molly Lonergan finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 164-07.00. Teammates Ildiko Varga and Gennessa Guzman were sixth and seventh, respectively.

The Wildcats will enjoy a week off before traveling to the NCAA Midwest Regional in Columbus, Ohio, May 29-30. It is the first year for the newly formatted NCAA Outdoor Championships including regional action.
