Billy Hayes Invitational Results
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman distance runner Keffri Neal ran a season-best time in the men’s 800-meter run at the Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Ind., and the Kentucky men’s and women’s track and field teams capped off their regular season on a stormy Friday evening at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex.
Neal had a fantastic 800-meter run, finishing third in his heat, and third overall at the meet, with a season-best time of 1:50.67. It is the second-straight meet that Neal has run a season-best time in the one-half mile long race. Neal ran a previous season-best time of 1:51.04 at the Payton Jordan Invitational last week in Palo Alto, Calif.
Sophomore Matt Hillenbrand competed in the men’s 800m run Saturday for the first time this year. Hillenbrand ran well, finishing fourth with a time of 1:51.07, which is the second fastest 800m recorded by a Wildcat this year.
Senior thrower Jennifer Svoboda finished fifth in the women’s discus with a mark of 151-03/46.10m.
Also competing Friday for Kentucky was senior Trent Halasek, freshman Joanne Imbert, junior Shelby Kennard and senior Samantha Stenzel.
The Billy Hayes Invitational wraps up the regular season for the Kentucky men’s and women’s track and field teams. The Wildcats will compete again May 10-13 at the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Baton Rouge, La.
The UK men finished eighth in the SEC Indoor Championships held in Lexington, Ky., in late February, and the UK women finished 12th. Junior Luis Orta was a co-recipient of the Cliff Harper Trophy, awarded annually to the men’s and women’s high-points earner of the meet. Orta was also named the SEC Indoor Men’s Runner of the Year.
