Wildcats Win All But One Event Entered at Inaugural Heart of the Bluegrass Classic

Arantxa King steps into the 2013-14 season as the UK track and field and cross country program's Director of Operations after serving as a volunteer coach helping with the jumpers and sprinters in 2013.

King, a two-time Olympian and recent competitor at the 2013 IAAF World Championships, will also be training for the World Championships and Olympics as a professional long jumper under her college head coach, Edrick Floreal.

King was captain of Stanford Track and Field Team for two years, and has been a member of the Bermuda National Track and Field Team since 2004.

Internationally, she is a 2008 and 2012 Olympian in the Long Jump, 2005 IAAF World Youth Champion, Carifta Games medalist from 2004-2006, and CAC Games medalist in 2004 and 2006. Additionally, she is a 2005 Pan American Jr. Champion and 2007 medalist, finished 10th at the 2006 IAAF World Juniors and 5th in 2008 World Juniors Championships, finished 8th in the 2007 Pan- American Senior Games, and most recently came 2nd in 2011 CAC Track and Field Championships.

Collegiately, she was a three-time Academic All-American, 2-time All-American, Pac-12 medalist in long jump for all four years, and was runner up in 2010 NCAA National Championships in the event. In 2012, she was Pac-12 LJ runner up and placed third in the triple jump.

Additionally, she placed second in the LJ NCAA Regional Championships and was ninth in the NCAA Championships in the triple jump. She went on to win the 2012 Bermuda and Trinidad National Championships in the long jump and various other international long jump competitions.

In addition to being the Bermuda record holder in the long jump, she is 2nd on Stanford University all-time list, and holds the Massachusetts and New England high school record in the Long Jump and Triple Jump.

King graduated from Stanford in 2011 with a degree in political science and a minor in Comparative studies (race and ethnicity) along with a master in sociology (equality and Law) in 2012.
