Swimming and Diving Announces 2011-12 Schedule
Aug. 25, 2011
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Kentucky swimming and diving team under the direction of 21st-year head coach Gary Conelly has announced its 2011-12 schedule that will feature 13 meets including the Southeastern Conference Championships, as well as the NCAA Championships.
"Our schedule this year is pretty equally balanced between conference and non-conference teams. It is full of challenges like Tennessee and some new challenges such as WKU and Missouri," UK head coach Gary Conelly said.
Kentucky will host two meets at the Lancaster Aquatic Center in Lexington, Ky. in 2011. The first of the two meets will be on Saturday Nov. 5, as the Cats welcome Southern Illinois and Missouri to town for a three-team meet. That meet is slated for a 10 a.m. EST start. The second of the two home meets will be against the University of Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.
The season will kickoff on Oct. 22 for the Wildcats in Knoxville, Tenn., for a meet with Tennessee and Indiana. That will be the first of four meets in the state of Tennessee for the team in 2011-12.
UK will then travel to Nashville, Tenn., on Oct. 29 for a three-team meet with Western Kentucky and host-school Vanderbilt. That meet will begin at 1 p.m.
After hosting a meet on Nov. 5, UK will then travel to Knoxville for the second time of the year when they will participate in the UT Invite from Nov. 16-18.
The Cats will have their only dual-SEC meet of the year in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Jan. 14 as Kentucky will take on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
UK will face in-state foe Louisville in their annual dual meet in Louisville, Ky., on the afternoon of Feb. 3. The first race will be swum at 2 p.m.
"I like our chances against all the teams we are going up against. We could certainly end up with one of our better dual meet win/lose records," Conelly said.
Kentucky will travel to Tennessee for the final time of the 2011-12 season when they make the short trip to Knoxville for the SEC Championships from Feb. 15-18. The SEC Championships, as always, will be broadcast on ESPNU.
The NCAA Zone Diving Championships will take place Thursday, March 8-10.
The Women's NCAA Championships will be hosted by Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., from March 15-17.
The Men's NCAA Championships will take place in Federal Way, Wash. from March 22-24.
