UK’s Cruz, Komisarz Headed to Olympic Trial Finals

Kentucky senior Daniel Cruz placed third in his 200-meter butterfly heat for a sixth-place overall showing in the event semifinal Friday evening at the U.S. Olympic Trials – Swimming in Long Beach, Calif. The top-eight finish assures Cruz of a spot in Saturday’s event final where he’ll battle former Olympic medalist Tom Malchow and the current world-record holder in the event, Michael Phelps.

Former Cat Rachel Komisarz scored a placement in her second event final of the trials with a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle. She completed the event in 2:00.84 and will compete for her second Olympic berth after winning the 100-meter butterfly Thursday evening. Saturday’s event finals are set for 8 p.m. EDT.

NBC will offer bonus coverage of selected events during its coverage of the U.S. Olympic Trials – Track & Field. Live timing will be available at www.omegatiming.com and complete results will be available at www.usaswimming.org.
