Mason Norman is in his second season as an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky after spending one season at the University of Utah in the same capacity. At Utah, Norman was responsible for coaching distance and the individual medley groups at the Pac-12 school.
A native of Duluth, Ga., Norman spent a season as a graduate assistant before being promoted to interim-assistant coach during the 2011-12 season. As a graduate assistant, Norman earned a master's degree in teacher education. He also spent time in Knoxville training for the 2012 Summer Olympics in which he competed in the Olympic Trials in the 100-meter freestyle event.
Norman had great success as a student-athlete during a four-year career at Division II Wingate. In his four seasons, Norman earned a total of 19 All-America honors and he helped lead Wingate to as high as sixth place nationally during his time there. In his senior season, he led Wingate to its third consecutive conference championship with three individual victories. Norman also swam as part of the 400-freestyle NCAA championship winning relay team and was also named Wingate's Male Athlete of the Year in 2009.
