Warren Grobbelaar joins the UK swimming and diving coaching staff after swimming for four years under the guidance of head coach Gary Conelly.
A Pretoria, South Africa native, Grobbelaar etched his name in the UK record books during his career at Kentucky, holding the second fastest time in the 100 butterfly (46.88) in program history, and the fourth fastest time in the 50 freestyle (19.56). Both times were set during Grobbelaar's senior year with the Cats.
In his four years with the Wildcats, Grobbelaar was a nine-time All-American recipient and team captain as a senior.
After redshirting during the 2008-09 season, Grobbelaar came back strong in 2009-10, his final year with the Cats. Grobbelaar's leadership helped guide the Cats to a 16th-place team finish at the NCAA Championships, where he earned two career-best times, himself.
In his final year, Grobbelaar earned All-America honors in the 200 free-relay when he anchored the fifth-place finishing team. Grobbelaar also earned honorable mention All-America honors in the 800-free relay and the 50 free as a senior.
As a freshman, Grobbelaar earned three honorable mention All-America honors at the NCAA Championships as a part of the 200-medley relay and 200- and 800-free relay teams.
As a sophomore, Grobbelaar had an impressive outing at the Southeastern Conference Championships, registering three top-10 finishes, all personal-best times, to lead the Cats.
The following year, Grobbelaar earned individual honorable mention All-America honors by placing 14th in the 100 butterfly at the NCAA Championships as a junior. Grobbelaar also received honorable mention All-America honors in the 400-medley relay and 400-free relay at the NCAA Championships. In addition to his performance at the NCAA Championships during his junior campaign, Grobbelaar also placed in seven events at the SEC Championships.
Grobbelaar was a mechanical engineering major at UK and was a member of the South African Junior Team and South African National Champion prior to his time with the Cats.
