Kentucky Rifle Hosts No. 6 Nebraska
Feb. 1, 2014
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The second-ranked University of Kentucky rifle team will host the sixth-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers Sunday at 9 a.m. ET at the Buell Amory, the Wildcats first home match of the spring. Free breakfast will be available for fans in attendance.
"We're excited to get back on our range and shoot at home this weekend," UK head coach Harry Mullins said. "Nebraska is coming off two strong performances and I'm anticipating this being a quality match."
Kentucky's counters in smallbore will include seniors Aaron and Emily Holsopple, sophomore Connor Davis and freshmen Heather Kirby and Sonya May. Emily Holsopple, Davis, Kirby, May and junior Elijah Ellis will be counters in air rifle.
The Wildcats return home after competing in the Withrow Invitational this past weekend. UK shot a 4683 in the invitational, while Emily Holsopple led the way with an individual aggregate of 1182, shooting a 592 in smallbore and a 590 in air rifle.
Holsopple's 592 was the best smallbore performance for a Wildcat since Henri Junghänel shot a 592 last year vs. Army.
May led the Wildcats in air rifle at the Withrow, shooting a 593, while fellow freshman Kirby shot a 591 in the second event.
Davis is returning from his trip to Munich, Germany, where he competed in the 2014 Bavarian Airgun Championships.
The Huskers are 7-1 entering the weekend, recently taking two matches from Air Force over the weekend. Nebraska shot a 4685 on Saturday to best the Falcons, before shooting a 4679 Sunday to complete the weekend sweep.
