The Tennessee sweep is complete.
On Thursday it was the women's basketball team. Earlier this afternoon it was the men's basketball team. And now, the UK men's tennis team has completed the sweep with an upset over the fourth-ranked Volunteers.
The No. 31Wildcats completed a dramatic comeback victory on Saturday to clinch a 4-2 win over the Volunteers on Saturday at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
The win marks UK's first win over a top-five opponent since April 6, 2005, when the Wildcats toppled No. 2 Illinois.
"Today snaps one of the longest dry spells that I can recall for our program without a win over a top-five team," UK Coach Dennis Emery said. "This win says a lot about the character of our team. We just played great today and we did what we had to do."
After Tennessee went ahead 2-1 following two singles court victories, the Wildcats notched two come-from-behind tiebreak victories and a straight-set victory to pull off one of the most significant victories in program history.
It's been a huge 72 hours for the UK program over its border-state rival. Check out more details about the men's match as well as the other two Tennessee victories on Ukathletics.com.
