Wildcats Wrap First Outdoor Track Meet of 2017

Final Results

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Kentucky track and field teams concluded the first meet of the outdoor season – Arizona State’s Baldy Castillo Invitational – with more strong performances on Saturday.

Freshman Ellen Ekholm placed second in the high jump by tying for No. 2 performer in school history clearing 5-feet 11.25 inches/1.81 meters.

A day after winning the triple jump, Marie-Josée Ebwea-Bile finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 19’0.5”/5.80m (+0.9). Ebwea-Bile’s 42’9.75”/13.05m triple jump from Friday is the early-season NCAA leader.

Kiah Seymour, the 2016 NCAA 400m hurdles silver medalist, continued her strong outdoor-opening competition weekend by placing fourth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.67, but the story of that event and Saturday at the Castillo Invitational more broadly was UK volunteer assistant coach Kori Carter.

Carter, a Brand Jordan professional, elected to travel to the Castillo meet to get some early-season runs in under the desert sun. The 2013 NCAA 400m hurdles Champion and 100m hurdles Silver Medalist ran a world-leading 12.78 to win the sprint hurdles a day after running a sub-23-second 200m – strong indicators before the Brand Jordan professional makes her 2017 400m hurdles debut. She set a new meet record.

Justin Kretchmer placed third in the high jump by clearing 6’11”/2.11m.

Sarah Blake opened up with a massive PR in the javelin on Friday.
