Volleyball Trio Named All-America for Second-Straight Year

LEXINGTON, Ky. - In a season highlighted by a number of thrilling wins and new firsts it was only fitting that the 2012 Kentucky volleyball team made even more history. The trio of Whitney Billings, Christine Hartmann and Stephanie Klefot earned American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America honors for the second-straight season becoming the first group of teammates to earn multiple honors in consecutive seasons in program history.

Billings earned second-team honors for the first time in her career, while Hartmann and Klefot were honorable mention selections. UK has earned a total of 19 All-America honors in program history with 13 of those selections coming in the eight-year tenure of Craig Skinner.

UK's junior right side hitter in Billings is the sixth Wildcat in program history to earn second-team accolades. It is the first such honor of her career after earning honorable mention distinction in her sophomore season after turning in the best season of her career. The Helena, Ala., native led the Wildcats with a career-best 365 kills on the year for an average of 2.99 per set. She also paced the squad with a career-high 35 aces. She ranked second on the team in digs (2.75 per set) and blocks (0.79 per set). The digs and blocks totals also marked career-bests. Furthermore, she charted a career-high 17 double-double efforts on the season and earned All-Southeastern Conference first team honors for the second-consecutive season.

Hartmann is an honorable mention selection for the second time in her career. The St. Charles, Ill., native dished out 10.83 assists per set and again led a balanced, but dynamic offensive unit as all five attackers posted 1.73 kills or more for the year. The senior floor general had career-highs in aces (21), digs (226) and blocks (79) in her senior campaign. She finishes her career ranking fifth all-time in UK's record books with 3,497 career assists after topping 1,000 in three-straight seasons.

Klefot earned honorable mention accolades after finishing her career as one of the most decorated in program history. A three-time SEC Libero of the Year, Klefot ranks second all-time in UK history and fourth in league history with 1,924 digs. She is the only player in league history to earn the top defensive honor in three consecutive seasons. The Louisville, Ky., native played in 489 career sets which ranks as the second most in school history. She went over 10 digs in a match 98 times in her career and logged 20 or more scoops in a match on 28 different occasions.
