Rapp Wins Second Straight SEC Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. ? Freshman Kentucky right-side hitter Lauren Rapp (Indianapolis, Ind.) claimed her second consecutive Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week award, her third such honor this season, the league office in Birmingham, Ala., announced Monday.

Rapp totaled 25 kills on the week, averaging 3.57 kills per game and 4.50 points per game as the Wildcats defeated Tennessee and Arkansas to improve to 14-3 overall and 5-1 in league play. Her 13 kills in the team?s win against Tennessee were one shy of her career best. She also had four aces on the week, including a career-high three against Arkansas.

"Congratulations to Lauren for winning the award for the second week in a row," UK head coach Craig Skinner said. "We consider individual accomplishments team awards, so when our team is successful it helps our chances to win weekly awards."

Rapp has won the award three of the six weeks of the season and, over the past two years, the Wildcats have claimed six SEC Freshman of the Week honors. That is the most of any school over the same two-year period.

Rapp is ranked third on the team with 2.56 kills per game. She has a .281 hitting percentage for the season and leads the team with 28 service aces.

Rapp and the Wildcats return to action this weekend when they travel to Florida and South Carolina.
