No. 10 Kentucky Travels to Louisville for Battle of the Bluegrass

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The No. 10 Kentucky volleyball team will hit the road for the first time during the 2012 season with a matchup against instate foe Louisville on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. The match will take place in the KFC Yum! Center which will also serve as the host site of the 2012 NCAA Championships.

Kentucky ascended to No. 10 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association coaches' poll on Tuesday following a 3-0 weekend and a tournament victory at the Kentucky Classic. Two of those wins came against North Carolina and Long Beach State, both of whom are on the cusp of breaking into the top 25 of the polls.

Junior Alexandra Morgan earned Southeastern Conference Defensive player of the week accolades following a weekend in which she blocked four or more opponent attacks in all three victories for a team-leading average of 1.33 per set. UK currently leads the SEC with 3.46 blocks per frame.

Sophomore Lauren O'Conner was named the MVP of the Kentucky Classic after pacing the offensive side of things for UK with 3.25 kills per set and three matches in double-figures. Senior setter Christine Hartmann joined the duo on the All-Tournament team following a weekend where she found five players for 2.08 kills per set or more in addition to adding 1.08 blocks per stanza.

UK leads the overall series with Louisville by a 25-23 margin following consecutive wins in the series including a 3-0 sweep in 2011.

The Cardinals enter the match with a 2-1 overall record after defeating both Western Kentucky and Morehead State in the Active Ankle Challenge. The Cards opened the season with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 26-28, 25-12) win over Western Kentucky. U of L then went on to claim a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-16) victory over MSU. Louisville fell to No. 4 Penn State 0-3 (25-20, 25-17, 25-18) for the first loss of the year.

Caitlin Welch and Lola Arslanbekova were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Active Ankle Challenge.

Wednesday's match marks the first of seven consecutive road matches for the Wildcats.
