Eight Wildcats to Compete at USTA/ITA Regional Championships

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Kentucky women’s tennis team continues fall competition at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, Oct. 17-21 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Eight Wildcats will compete at the five-day tournament, hosted by the University of Tennessee. UK’s entries are highlighted by Nadia Ravita and Aldila Sutjiadi ranked No. 1 in the main doubles draw. Sutjiadi is also No. 4 in the singles draw, while Kelsey Dieters is ranked sixth.

“This is always an exciting time of the year,” UK head coach Carlos Drada said. “We are well prepared and will need to execute what we’ve been working on with conviction. It is up to us to seize the opportunities ahead.”

Sutjiadi, ranked fourth in the singles draw, opens competition at 1 p.m. ET vs. Purdue. Also at 1 p.m., Kirsten Lewis faces off against UTC while Stephanie Fox competes against Tennessee. Dieters, ranked sixth in the singles draw, faces one of nine qualifiers from the qualifying draw at 2:15 p.m. Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff also begins play at 2:15 p.m. vs. Vanderbilt, while Kate Lanier faces ETSU and Taylor Lederman plays Vanderbilt’s Courtney Colton, ranked No. 2 in the draw.

In doubles action, Ravita and Sutjiadi are seeded No. 1 and will play one of four qualifiers from Friday’s qualifying draw at 9 a.m. ET Saturday. Morin-Kougoucheff and Lewis will also play at nine vs. Indiana and Dieters and Lederman face Xavier.

In Friday’s doubles qualifying draw, Lanier and Fox begin play against Louisville.

The 2014-15 Wildcats open the spring season January 13 in Hawaii, while UK hosts its first home contests of the year on Jan. 18 vs. the College of Charleston and Belmont.

Drada and the Wildcats are coming off an impressive 2013-14 campaign that saw Kentucky make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2009. UK advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s second round and three Wildcats competed at the NCAA Individual Championships, including Ravita. Drada was named the Wilson/ITA Ohio Valley Region Coach of the Year, while assistant coach Kevin Calhoun earned Ohio Valley Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
