April 18, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky freshman Grace Trimble was named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team on Wednesday, as announced by the league office. As it is just her first year at UK, this is the first time Trimble has received this award.

The SEC honors athletes from all 20 sports for its community service teams. The community service team highlights SEC athletes that give back to their communities with maximum effort. Trimble has worked extensively around her hometown of Winchester, Ky., mainly on and around UK’s campus in Lexington, Ky.

As a junior in high school she founded Lexington Tennis Center Smart Shots, a National Junior Tennis and Learning Program. LTC Smart Shots focuses on helping underprivileged elementary aged students through tutoring and lessons in quick start tennis. She has continued to work with the program extensively while attending UK, acting as Head Volunteer Coach for a fall event and as a Smart Shot Christmas Sponsor.

On top of her efforts with LTC Smart Shots, Trimble has volunteered with the 2011 SEC Food Drive Football Collection, Breakfast with Santa, God’s Pantry Back Pack Program, Salvation Army Bell Ringing and the Catholic Action Center Homeless Shelter.

The women’s tennis team’s next event is set to begin on Thursday as the Cats take on South Carolina in the SEC Tournament. The 11th-seeded Wildcats will face the 6th-seeded Gamecocks in Oxford, Miss. at 10 a.m. ET at Ole Miss.
