TAMPA, Fla. - For their fourth consecutive road match in eight days, the No. 17 Wildcats (9-4, 1-3 Southeastern Conference) meet with the South Florida Bulls in Tampa on Saturday. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Bulls are on a three match winning streak having recently defeated No. 69 Wisconsin, 5-2. Kentucky has suffered defeat in its last three but to schools ranked in the top 30, No. 29 Arkansas, No. 20 LSU and No. 4 Baylor.
However, within those losses have come big time wins individually. Senior Carolina Escamilla and freshman Caroline Lilley have partnered up on court one for UK and are currently ranked No. 29 after defeating Arkansas' top duo. Escamilla also defeated a ranked player at Baylor, No. 37 Taylor Ormond in straight sets for Kentucky's only point against the Bears.
USF's only ranked player is No. 82 Irene Rehberger. Rehberger and doubles partner Lauren Shumate most recently defeated a top 50 duo against the Badgers on Wednesday, helping to set up their team with the doubles point.
Leading the Wildcats is junior Christine Johnston with a singles record of 10-2, followed by Lilley's 9-2 tally. Along with UK's ranked doubles pair, one singles player is amongst the rankings. Sophomore Megan Broderick is positioned at No. 117.
The Blue and White have only met with South Florida five times, winning four of the five matches. Last season the Cats found victory over the Bulls in Lexington, 6-1.
