Women's Tennis Hosts Second Weekend Doubleheader
Feb. 10, 2012
Lexington, Ky. – The No. 71 University of Kentucky women’s tennis team (4-1, 0-0 SEC) is set to host its second of three doubleheaders this season at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex. The Wildcats will start the day off against Winthrop at 10 a.m. ET, afterwards facing Cincinnati at 6 p.m. ET.
The Cats are coming off a split weekend. The team first faced No. 48 Purdue, who provided quite a challenge. Every match proved to be a battle between the two teams, but Purdue edged out the win with a final score, 6-1. Kentucky quickly turned around their game as they faced Miami (Ohio) the next day. Once again, every point was well earned but this time UK came out on top, defeating Miami (Ohio), 5-2.
The Wildcats will head into a weekend with familiar opponents. Kentucky boasts a winning record against both opponents, with neither team having ever defeated the Cats. Specifically, UK holds a 2-0 all-time record against Winthrop and a 7-0 record against Cincinnati.
Coming off of their best start since the 2008-09 season, the Wildcats look to build upon their successes and learn from their only loss on the season thus far as they head into the doubleheader.
