Women's Tennis Hosts Doubleheader Tuesday
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The No. 26 Kentucky women’s tennis team hosts No. 46 Illinois and Northern Kentucky on Tuesday at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
The Wildcats (5-1) and Illini square off at Noon, ET, while UK hosts the Norse in an in-state clash at 6 p.m. Kentucky has won five consecutive matches, including two against higher-ranked opponents.
Fans can follow along with live results on UKathletics.com for both the match vs. Illinois and NKU, along with updates on Twitter at @UKWomensTennis. Admission is free for all fans attending the contest at the Boone Tennis Complex on the UK campus.
Kentucky is coming off a dominating 6-1 win over Penn State Saturday. PSU won the doubles point, but the Wildcats quickly responded with wins on all four courts in the first set of singles. That set the tone for a singles sweep, as UK did not let the Nittany Lions win another point in the 6-1 victory.
Illinois comes to Lexington with a 2-0 record after home wins over UIC and Illinois State last weekend. Northern Kentucky owns a 1-1 mark in 2015, with a 4-3 home win over Southeast Missouri State before a 7-0 loss at Louisville.
The Wildcats return to the road for the ITA National Indoor Championships, Feb. 6-9 in Charlottesville, Va. Kentucky makes its first appearance in the championship event since 2005, when UK advanced to the championship match of the 16-team tournament. The Wildcats advanced to this year’s event after back-to-back upset wins over No. 21 Rice and No. 36 Arizona State in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Jan. 24-25.
