Application and Enrollment

Interested participants for all camps must fully complete the attached application along with accompanying medical insurance form, and deposit or register online at www.ukathletics.com/camps http://www.ukathletics.com/camps . If completing the attached application please type or print in ink only. Fill in all sections. This form may be copied for additional applications.

Medical Information and Requirements

The University of Kentucky requires:

  1. A signed Parental Consent Statement Get Acrobat Reader
  2. Proof of a physical, dated within one year of camp (The physical may be mailed separately from the application or presented to the camp trainer at check-in) or Physician's Statement can be accepted in lieu of a physical
  3. A copy of the front and back of the camper's health insurance card

Camp Deposit

The Kentucky Softball Camps require a deposit of $100.00 for residential and $50 for day camps with each application to reserve a space and will be subtracted from the total fee. This deposit is non-refundable for any reason. Please make checks payable to: UKAA - Softball Camp.

Registration Deadlines and Check-in

All camps will stay open until the week prior to camp or until full. Do not send applications in two weeks prior to camp, please register online or call 859.257.6314.

Check-in location and directions to the dorms and fields/facility will be sent to you prior to the start of camp sessions via email (please provide an email that is checked frequently and check your junk email for confirmation). For all Day Camps and Weekly Instructional Camps check in will start one hour prior to each session. You must check-in for each session you register for.

Accommodations

If you have a definite roommate preference, please send your application as early as possible. Both campers must request each other on their application. If you do not request a roommate, you will be assigned one.

Safety and Supervision

Supervision by camp counselors and coaches will be provided on each floor of the residence hall, during meals in the Commons and at all camp activities. Experienced trainers will be available before, during and after camp activities. Gatorade and water coolers will be available throughout the camp. Athletic trainers are prohibited from providing OTC (over the counter) medication to campers. Please notify our trainer at check-in of any special health concerns you may have.

Discounts

We are pleased to offer discounts for all camps:

  • For All Day Camps: An employee discount is available for those who work in any capacity at the University of Kentucky - $20 off camp tuition. There will be a sibling discount available for families with more than one camper in the same camp: 1st camper - regular tuition, 2nd camper: Save $20.
  • For All Residential Camps: An employee discount is available for those who work in any capacity at the University of Kentucky - $40 off camp tuition. There will be a sibling discount available for families with more than one camper in the same camp: 1st camper - regular tuition, 2nd camper: Save $40.
  • There will be a group discount available for all day and residential/commuter camps, please contact 859.257.6314 for details.

What to Bring

Day/Weekly/Commuter Camps please bring any and all equipment pertinent to your camp: glove, helmet, bat, cleats/turfs/tennis shoes, batting gloves, hat/visor, and items needed for sliding (possibly a change of clothes). Catchers bring gear if you have it. Day Pitching Camps must provide their own catchers, can be Dad's, Mom's, etc. Weekly Pitching Camps please do not bring a catcher. Residential Campers will bring all equipment listed above in addition to items necessary for residential living: linens or sleeping bag, sleeping items (pj's, pillow, etc), shower items (shampoo, conditioner, soap, flip-flops, etc), towel(s), and a Key Deposit of $40 (will be returned when dorm key is returned at the end of camp). **Please make sure everything is clearly labeled!

The Rachel Lawson Era

  • UK made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2009

  • UK notched the biggest turnaround in wins in the SEC in 2009, winning 10 more games in league play than the previous season
  • Reached the 30-win plateau in 2009 for just the second time in school history
  • Matched a school-record with eight consecutive victories in 2009
  • The Blue and White had four players selected to All-SEC teams in 2009, which is a school record
  • Lawson claimed her 100th career victory when UK beat Eastern Illinois, 5-1 in 2008
  • Every player on Lawson's squad has improved her batting average during her tenure
  • Chanda Bell threw the school's first-ever no-hitter in a win over Western Kentucky in 2009
  • Bell also broke school records in the most strikeouts in a season and in a game

Day Camps

September 12 & 13, 2009
COST - $50/Session, $85/2 Sessions, $130/3 Sessions
This Fall Camp is for all ages who are interested in taking their skills to the next level. All major aspects are covered with drills campers can do on their own to improve their skills.

Session 1 PITCHING (10AM - Noon) - Learn the fundamentals and the advanced techniques of pitching, improve their speed and accuracy, and/or learn and develop movement pitches. Pitchers will learn pitch specific fundamentals and advanced techniques of fastball, change, curve, rise, screw, and drop. PITCHERS MUST PROVIDE A CATCHER.

Session 2 OFFENSE (12:30 - 2:30PM) - Become the best run producer at your position. This session will focus on aspects of the offensive game: mechanics of hitting/slapping and bunting; while also learning advanced skills of base running and sliding.

Session 3 DEFENSE (Infield/Outfield/Catching) (3:00 - 5:00PM) - Want to learn a new position or be the best at your current position? Campers will be separated into their specifically chosen position where they will be instructed in proper fielding mechanics and detailed positional instruction. DOES NOT INCLUDE PITCHING.

IMPORTANT NOTE - The camp will be divide by age/grade level:
Saturday, 9/12 will be for athletes 6 years to 8th grade ONLY.
Sunday, 9/13 will be for athletes in High School; grades 9 - 12 ONLY.

UK's Pre-Thanksgiving High School All Skills Training Camp provides an excellent opportunity for high school player's grades 9 - 12 to be instructed by the Southeastern Conference's own Kentucky Softball Staff. This camp is designed for the serious softball player - one who has the interest and desire to play collegiate softball. This two phase camp will focus on the development of all defensive and offensive fundamental skills of the game. DOES NOT INCLUDE PITCHING SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION.

January 9 & 10, 2010
COST - $85
JANUARY 9 - This one-day clinic, pitchers and catchers will receive intensive instruction in the fundamentals and skills needed to master their position. Campers will be grouped by age and skill levels and taken through the same instruction and drills utilized by the University of Kentucky battery staff. Pitchers will focus on pitching mechanics, proper procedures to throw various pitches, drills and methods to increase control and velocity. The pitching instruction includes details about improving speed and power through proper pitching mechanics. Detailed instruction will also focus on the rise, change, screw ball, drop, and curve.

Catchers will learn all aspects about the art of catching. Our staff will highlight the fundamental catching techniques including those necessary for receiving the all pitches, blocking, steals, and throw downs.

Session P1A (10 - 11:30 AM) - 6 years - 8th Grade Session P1B (1 - 2:30 PM) - 6 years - 8th Grade
Session P2A (11:30 - 1 PM) - Grades 9 - 12 Session P2B (2:30 - 4:00 PM) - Grades 9 - 12

CATCHING:

Session C1A (10 - 11:30 AM) - 6 years - 8th Grade Session C1B (1 - 2:30 PM) - 6 years - 8th Grade
Session C2A (11:30 - 1 PM) - Grades 9 - 12 Session C2B (2:30 - 4:00 PM) - Grades 9 - 12

JANUARY 9 will also include a Coaches Clinic (5:00 - 7:30 PM) - Coaches will be taught through verbal instruction and visual demonstrations; also by participation in instruction drills/games. This one time clinic will include sessions on fundamentals, drills, and strategy for all areas of softball instruction. We will outline our practice plans and provide you information to more effectively plan indoor and outdoor practices; handouts included.

JANUARY 10 - Prepare like a Division 1 athlete and become the best slugger at your position. Each hitters/slappers will receive intensive instruction specific to offensive production. Campers will be grouped by age and skill levels and taken through the same instruction and drills specific to hitting/slapping mechanics; will also be instructed in the art of bunting, base running and sliding.

Session H1B (1 - 2:30 PM) - 6 years - 8th Grade

Weekly Instruction Camps

University of Kentucky Softball Staff and Head Coach Rachel Lawson will be offering weekly 1 hour clinics instructing on advanced fundamentals of pitching or hitting to help each athlete to become better prepared for the upcoming season. Instruction during each clinic will be led by Coach Lawson and advanced according to the players abilities. Enrollment is limited to six (6) strictly on a first come first serve basis.
