The University of Kentucky softball team fell to 9-26 on the season after being swept in a doubleheader by in-state foe Eastern Kentucky Wednesday at the UK Softball Complex. The Wildcats made a valiant effort to come back from six runs down in the first game but eventually fell 7-5. In the second game, the Colonels (14-10) found themselves down by three runs but scored five in the final three innings to get the 5-3 win.

UK scored first in the bottom of the first inning in the opening game when Megan Brooks was singled home by junior Rachel Friberg.

But Eastern came storming back, scoring seven runs in the second, including a grand slam by Amy Herrington to put the Colonels up 7-1.

Brooks hit her second home run of the season in the third inning to begin a three run frame for UK. A sacrifice fly by Jessica Nance and a wild pitch allowed Lyndsey Angus and Friberg to score, cutting the lead to 7-4.

The Cats added another run in the bottom of the fifth but that would be all they get as they fell 7-5.

In the second game, Kentucky held a 3-0 lead going into the fifth inning. Freshman Amy Kendall hit her first career home run in the second inning to give UK the 1-0 lead. Angus and Nance scored in the fourth when a Kendall grounder wasn't fielded cleanly.

UK's Crystalie Wolfe, who had no-hit the Colonels through four innings, gave up four hits in the top of the fifth which led to three runs and a tie game.

Eastern added two more in the top of the seventh while the Cats went three-up, three-down in the last three innings.

The Cats dive back into SEC play when they host South Carolina in a weekend series, April 5-6, at the UK Softball Complex.
