Soccer Looks to Continue Momentum against Arkansas
Oct. 10, 2009
LEXINGTON, KY - The Wildcats (4-6-3, 1-4-0 SEC) look to continue the momentum gained in Friday's 1-0 upset of 13th ranked LSU as they host the Arkansas Razorbacks (7-3-3, 1-3-1) Sunday at the UK Soccer Complex.
Once again, it was the defense that carried the Wildcats in their upset of the Tigers. Kentucky, which entered the weekend ranked 36th nationally with a 0.70 goals-against-average, recorded its sixth shutout of the season, lowering its GAA to .065. Junior goal keeper Sydney Hiance ranks fourth in the SEC with a 0.65 GAA.
Junior Giuleana Lopez leads the Wildcats in nearly every offensive category including points (8), goals (3), shots (31) and game-winning goals (2).
The Wildcats are 10-3-1 all-time against Arkansas and have won three of the last four meetings. Both teams enter Sunday's match off Friday victories. Kentucky defeated LSU, while Arkansas won at Vanderbilt, collecting their first win of the SEC season as well.
The Razorbacks are led offensively by Allie Chandler who has a team best 12 points off five goals and two assists. Defensively, Britni Williams has registered a 0.61 GAA in goal, third best in the SEC.
Kickoff between the Cats and Razorbacks is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The first 300 UK students (must show valid UK student ID) through the gate will receive a "MEMBER OF THE BIG BLUE NATION" wristband which will admit them to the student only men's basketball practice. Admission is free for UK students.
