Soccer Hosts Tennessee in Sunday Match
Oct. 3, 2009
LEXINGTON, KY - The UK women's soccer team (3-5-3, 0-3-0 SEC) closes out weekend action Sunday hosting the Tennessee Lady Vols (5-5-1, 1-2-0) in a televised match on CSS.
Both teams enter the match off one-goal losses on Friday night. The Wildcats dropped a narrow 1-0 affair to No. 22 Georgia, while the Lady Vols lost a 1-0 overtime heartbreaker at Vanderbilt.
"It's a great opportunity," said UK head coach Jon Lipsitz. "We're going to be playing television and that's exciting; it's a great chance to showcase what we're doing here with this program. Tennessee is a perennially fantastic team and very well coached and well organized by Angela Kelly and her staff. We're excited to get another chance. The greatest thing about difficult losses is when you get to play again right away. We wouldn't want to wait a week after this one, that's for sure."
Kentucky trails in the all-time series with Tennessee, 7-10-0, but the two teams have split the last four meetings.
The Wildcats have one of the top defenses in the nation, ranking 36th nationally in goals-against-average at 0.68. Goalie Sydney Hiance ranks 41st in the nation with a 0.68 GAA.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2:06 p.m. ET. The game will be televised live on CSS and live stats/blog will be available at www.UKathletics.com.
