Wildcats Close Out Five-Game Road Stretch at No. 9 Florida
Oct. 1, 2011
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Kentucky women's soccer team (9-2-0, 2-1-0 SEC) close out their five-game road stretch in Gainesville, Fla., taking on the No. 9 Florida Gators on Sunday afternoon.
Kentucky is coming off an historic win on Friday night, when the Wildcats knocked off the South Carolina Gamecocks 1-0 for the first time since the 2006 season. The win came on the heels of Caitlin Landis' third goal in two games. Landis beat the keeper 1v1 to put UK in the winning position.
Kentucky looks to continue one of its best conference starts in program history. The last time the Cats posted back-to-back road wins in the conference was in 2007. And the last time UK won three-straight on the road in the SEC was in the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Kentucky closed out 1999 with four-straight conference wins away from Lexington and started 2000 with back-to-back road wins.
The Gators have had their way with the Wildcats in the past, leading the all-time series 17-2-2. The last time UK defeated the Florida was in the 2006 SEC Tournament championship game to claim the title. Kentucky has never won a game in Gainesville, Fla. in program history.
The game on Sunday will be the first of two televised games for Kentucky in 2011, as Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) will carry the action live from James G. Pressly Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 2:07 p.m. ET kickoff. Bernie Guenther will provide the play-by-play and former Georgia State standout Christa Mann will provide color commentary.
