In a back and forth game, the women's soccer White squad defeated the Blue squad 9-6 in the inaugural First Day Back to School Blue-White Kickball Championship Wednesday morning on the UK Softball field.

After jumping out to an early lead that climbed to 4-2 in the early innings, the White squad fell apart defensively, allowing four runs in the fourth inning to fall behind 6-4.

Not be outdone, the Blue team had their own defensive woes in the fifth inning which resulted in them falling behind by the final 9-6 margin.

"I hate losing," said a dejected Aaron Rodgers, coach of the Blue squad.

Head women's soccer coach, and white squad member, Jon Lipsitz, was excited about the event, as well as the class showed by his teammates. "I'm looking forward to making this kickball an annual tradition on the first day of school each year," said Lipsitz. "We're excited about the possibility of live stats next year and working our way into some live video streaming to take the game worldwide. As far as the game, I thought our team booted the ball well and showed great character and quality in victory.

"These athletes work so hard in the preseason and with class beginning today, we thought this might be a welcome distraction for them."

The Wildcats return to soccer action on Saturday, hosting in-state rival Louisville at 7:00 p.m. at the UK Soccer Complex.
