Simon Receives Prolific Academic Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. - University of Kentucky women's soccer player Erin Simon was named a member of Phi Sigma Theta and Sigma Alpha Lambda, two organizations that recognize leadership and academic success, after posting a 3.7 GPA in 2012.
Phi Sigma Theta is a national honor society at UK dedicated to recognizing academic achievements in undergraduate studies, while Sigma Alpha Lambda is a national leadership and honors organization dedicated to promoting and rewarding academic achievement and providing members with opportunities for community service, personal development and lifelong professional fulfillment.
The West Windsor, N.J., native also tabbed a 3.8 GPA in the fall semester of 2011 and was selected to the Dean's List. For these academic accolades, Simon received the Joe Quinn Journalism Scholarship, awarded to her by the director of the School of Journalism and Telecommunications at UK, Beth Barnes on June 28.
Simon appeared in 15 games in 2011 for UK, tallying an assist in her opening game in a UK jersey against Oakland.
The UK women's soccer team kicks off the 2012 season on Aug. 17 at 7:00 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex vs. Coastal Carolina.
