No. 18 UK Gymnastics Finishes Seventh at SEC Championship

The University of Kentucky finished seventh at the Southeastern Conference Championship scoring a 194.800 before 5,628 fans at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

Fourth-ranked Florida won the team title with a 197.050 to finish ahead of top-ranked Alabama (196.875). No. 5 Georgia (196.825) took third while No. 10 LSU (195.750) claimed fourth place. Fifteenth-ranked Auburn (195.575) was fifth and No. 8 Arkansas (195.275) end up at sixth.

Kentucky (7-13) climbed as high as fifth place in the overall standings after three events following a strong performance on the vault. UK notched a 49.025 team score to finish fifth in the event. LSU and Alabama tied for first on the vault with a 49.300.

The Wildcats were led on the vault by junior Jasmine Minion (Memphis, Tenn.) who scored a 9.850 to tie for eighth. Senior Emily Green (Penfield, N.Y.) and sophomore Whitney Rose (Frisco, Texas) each posted 9.825 scores to tie for 16th. Alabama's Morgan Dennis and LSU's Susan Jackson tied for the individual vault title with a 9.900.

Kentucky finished sixth on the floor exercise with 48.800 team score. Florida took first place with a 49.400. Senior Hillary Ferguson (Richmond, Ky.) finished first among UK performers with a 9.850 to tie for 12th place. Green was second among UK gymnasts with a 9.800 to tie for 24th. Florida won the team title on the floor with a 49.400. Georgia's Courtney McCool won the individual title with a 9.950.

The Wildcats finished in seventh place on the uneven bars (48.325) and the balance beam (48.625). Andre Mitchell (Knoxville, Tenn.) led UK on the uneven bars with a 9.750 to tie for 19th. Senior Jamie Reimann (Johnston, Iowa) and Storey Morris (Tyler, Texas) posted 9.675 scores on the bars to tie for 27th. Green led UK on the balance beam with a 9.850 to tie for ninth place. Senior Emilie Rymer (Medina, Ohio) posted a 9.750 on the balance beam to finish 31st. Florida won both team titles on the uneven bars (49.125) and the balance beam (49.225). Georgia's Kat Ding won the uneven bars individual title with a 9.925. Alabama's Ashley Priess took the balance beam individual title with a 9.950.

Priess won the all-around title with a 39.500 score. UK's Mitchell finished 12th with a 39.000 tally.

Kentucky will learn on Monday afternoon if it has qualified for the NCAA Championships. UK will serve as host to the NCAA Central Regional Championships at Memorial Coliseum on April 10. Six teams will compete with the two best scoring teams moving on to the NCAA Championships, April 22-24 in Gainesville, Fla.
