BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Kentucky senior gymnast Audrey Harrison capped her record-setting career with an 18th-place finish on balance beam at the 2014 NCAA Gymnastics Championships Friday afternoon at Birmingham’s BJCC Arena.

Harrison, Kentucky’s first national championship qualifier since 2010 and the 11th in school history, scored a 9.800 on beam to finish tied for 18th overall. The score is tied for the sixth-highest on beam at the NCAA Championships in program history. Only Jenny Hansen, who won eight national titles as a Wildcat, has recorded a higher score.

“I was really excited about my routine,” Harrison said. “It was probably one of my best routines of the year. I had a little bit of a wobble on my series, but other than that, I hit it and it was great. It was a really cool experience, I am thankful to be here.”

The Knoxville, Tenn., native finished tied for 18th among 45 competitors on beam in the first of two NCAA Championships semifinals. The top four gymnasts, including ties, from each semifinal advanced to Sunday’s individual event finals.

One of the most successful gymnasts in UK history, Harrison joins Hansen as one of two Wildcats to record a 9.900 or higher on all four events in her career. She has been the team’s all-around leader in each of the past three seasons and has won 33 event titles in her career, including a team-best 11 in 2014.

This year, she tallied a total of 31 team-high scores and helped Kentucky to a school-record regional score of 195.925 at the 2014 NCAA Regional. The SEC’s leading all-around winner in 2013, Harrison has helped the Wildcats record the top three team scores in program history along with the best team score in UK history on all four events.
