No. 16 Kentucky Improves on Vault in loss to No. 1 Florida

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 16 University of Kentucky gymnastics team posted a season-high score on vault of 49.05 and continued its impressive scores on floor exercise with a 48.925, but fell to the No. 1-ranked Florida Gators 196.775-192.900 at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla., on Friday.

Kentucky (2-1, 0-1 SEC) showed impressive improvements on vault, increasing its score from the season opener by a large margin. The Wildcats posted a team score of 49.05 as all five gymnasts earned a season high on the event. The Wildcats were led by junior Whitney Rose on vault with a 9.9, finishing tied for second overall on the event. Seniors Phylicia Reshard, Jasmine Minion and Andrea Mitchell followed on vault to help UK score high. Reshard scored a career high 9.875 followed by Minion’s 9.825 and Mitchell’s 9.8. Senior Colleen Williams also scored well on vault, posting a season high 9.65.

For the second-straight week, floor was a strong point for Kentucky, posting a 48.925. Mitchell and Reshard, who each took home event honors, led UK on the floor as both scored a 9.85. Minion and Rose followed with high floor scores with Minion totaling a 9.775 and Rose a 9.75. Freshman Audrey Harrison also performed well on floor with a season-high mark of 9.7, two tenths of a point better than her first collegiate floor routine in the season opener.

Kentucky started the night on bars, posting a 48.525 with season-high scores from Mitchell, Reshard and Rose. Mitchell scored a 9.8 on bars to lead the Wildcats while Reshard totaled a 9.675 and Rose posted a 9.775.

The Wildcats last rotation was beam, where UK scored a 46.4. UK was led on beam by freshman Paige Krall and senior Jasmine Minion, who each scored season highs. Krall totaled a team-high score of 9.675 on beam, while Minion posted a 9.65.

Florida (2-0, 1-0 SEC) lead throughout the meet, while UF’s Ashanee Dickerson took home the all-around title with a score of 39.225. Mitchell came in second for UK in the all-around at 38.675, while Rose came in third with a 38.025.
