LEXINGTON, Ky. - After finishing second at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup on Tuesday, the Kentucky women's golf team is set to host the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational Friday-Sunday, at the University Club's Big Blue Golf Course.

Shooting an 898 (303-290-305), the second-place finish marks the second best event for the Cats under head coach Myra Blackwelder. Last season, the squad placed first at the Lady Mocs Intercollegiate.

At the Cardinal Cup, junior Louise Ljungstedt led the team with a 9-over-par 223 (77-68-78), and finished ninth overall. Ljungstedt is set to start again this week for Kentucky.

Joining Ljungstedt in the lineup is sophomore Ashlee Rose who shot a 16th-place 225 (71-76-78) in the season-opening Mary Fossum Invitational. Seniors Kristin Vincent and Sara Hurwitch will also compete for the Cats this weekend. Vincent placed 11th (75-72-77) at the Cardinal Cup, and after six rounds on the season, she enters the tournament with a 76 stroke average. Hurwitch made her season debut at the Cardinal Cup and competed as an individual, recording a 225 (71-77-77) and finishing tied for 15th.

Freshman Betsie Johnson rounds out Kentucky's starting five. A native of Nicholasville, Ky., Johnson has competed in Kentucky's two previous events, and finished tied for 37th at the Mary Fossum Invitational (78-74-80) and tied for 18th at the Cardinal Cup (75-78-73).

The Wildcats will also enter a junior varsity squad in to the event. Leading the squad are freshmen Heather Lott and Ashleigh Albrecht, who each competed in the Mary Fossum Invitational and Cardinal Cup. This marks the second event for sophomores Laura McGehee and Megan Moir who competed as individuals at the Cardinal Cup. Completing the JV squad is senior Erica Still who is making her season debut.

Kentucky held an annual fall invitational from 1976-1997, and not again until 2002. It has been held every year since, except 2008. In the past, the tournament has been called the Lady Kat Invitational and the Lady Wildcat Invitational. This year, the tournament was renamed the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational in honor of former head coach Bettie Lou Evans.

Evans coached the Wildcats for 23 years from 1978-2001. During her tenure, she was named Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year in 1986 and 1990, and Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year in 1992. Serving as Director of Golf Operations, she still plays a vital role in Kentucky women's golf.

In 2007, Kentucky hosted the Lady Wildcat Fall Invitational. Alabama took top honors with an 877 (292-290-295). With a 3-under-par 213 (67-71-75), the individual champion was Courtney Harter of Alabama.
