Women's Golf Tees Off at 'MO'Morial Invitational
Sep 8, 2013
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Kentucky women's golf team is set to kick-off the 2013-14 campaign, Sept. 9-11 at the "MO"Morial Invitational in Bryan, Texas. The Wildcats enter the season under fourth-year head coach Golda Johansson Borst.
Kentucky's lineup for the season-opening tournament will feature senior Liz Breed, sophomores Cylia Damerau and Sarah Harris and freshmen Alessandra Walker, Haley Mills and Megan Kinney. Kinney will play as an individual. For Walker, Mills and Kinney, the tournament will be the first collegiate action of their career.
"It's hard to believe that we are leaving for our first event," Borst said. "Our team has changed a lot from last year, losing the four seniors, but it's exciting to have our three new faces on the road right out of the gates."
The tournament will begin Monday and conclude Wednesday with a round of 18 each day. Action will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday and a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Wednesday. All times are Eastern.
The Traditions Club is a par-72 (36-36), 6,206-yard course. Hole No. 5 proves to be the longest on the course at 539 yards, followed by hole No. 10 at 519 yards. The shortest hole on the course is No. 16 at just 143 yards.
"The Traditions Club is very placement-oriented, both in the fairways and on the greens, and we believe this fits well into our style of play," Borst said. "Needless to say we are ready to get going and see this team in action."
Joining Kentucky in the invitational will be Central Florida, East Carolina, Elon, Florida State, Houston, Redlands CC, Rollins College, Texas A&M (host), UT-Pan America, UT-San Antonio and Virginia.
This marks the third time that Kentucky will take part in the "MO"Morial, with the last time coming in 2011 when the Wildcats finished third.
The Wildcats return to action following the "MO"Morial Invitational at the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn., Sept. 20-22.
