Hurwitch Finishes Third at Virginias Women's Stroke Play Championship

RICHMOND, Va. -- Carding a one-over par three-day total of 214, Kentucky senior golfer Sara Hurwitch finished the Virginias Women's Stroke Play Championship in third place Thursday at Meadowbrook Country Club.
In the final round of the tournament, Hurwitch, a native of Sterling, Va., posted a one-under par 70. Tallying three birdies and only one bogey, Hurwitch finished the front nine with a two-under 36. On the back nine, she recorded only one birdie and bogied the 10th and 18th holes.
Hurwitch ended day one of the tournament in first place with a two-under par 69, and finished day two tied for second after posting a 75.
The champion, Lauren Greenlief, finished the tournament at three under, while second place golfer Amanda Steinhagen finished at one under.
Hurwitch's third-place finish marks her third top-three finish in three years at the Virginias Women's Stroke Play Championship. She took home first place in 2007 and placed second in 2008 after losing in a playoff to this year's fourth-place finisher, Kristen Simpson.
This season for the Wildcats, Hurwitch competed in eight tournaments and finished with a 78.3 stroke average. A transfer from Central Florida, the 2008-2009 season was her first with Kentucky.
