Rose and Albrecht Pace Wildcats to Second Place after Two Rounds

DOVE CANYON, Calif. - Recording a tournament-low 294 in the second round, the University of Kentucky women's golf team stands in a tie for second place (605, 311-294) after Monday's opening two rounds of the Anteater Invitational held at Dove Canyon Country Club (par 71, 5,960 yards) in Dove Canyon, Calif.

Sophomore Ashlee Rose (77-73) and freshman Ashleigh Albrecht (75-75) stand in a tie for ninth, each recording an 8-over-par 150. Rose finished the first round tied for 19th, while Albrecht entered the second 18 holes tied for 13th.

Tied for 15th, freshman Heather Lott posted a 10-over-par 152 on the first day of competition. Lott went 4-over-par on the back nine during the second round, but finished the front nine with an even-par 36.

Carding Kentucky's best single-round score of the first two rounds, freshman Betsie Johnson posted a 155 (84-71) and stands tied for 23rd. Johnson started the second 18 holes on the sixth hole and quickly birdied the par-3 No. 7. With a birdie on the par-4 No. 14, Johnson continued to record a bogey and double bogey on the back nine. Johnson's final score of the round came on the par-4 No. 3, taking the freshman back to even-par.

Senior Kristin Vincent rounded out Kentucky's top five with a 161 (82-79).

Competing for the Wildcats as an individual, senior Sara Hurwitch posted a 151 (79-72), finishing the day in 13th. Hurwitch began the second round with three straight bogies, but scored on No. 3 and her final hole, the par-4 No. 15.

A 54-hole event, play resumes Tuesday with the final 18 holes beginning with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. EST.

Joining Kentucky and UC Irvine at the Anteater Invitational are Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Fresno State, Hawaii, Idaho, Long Beach State, Oregon State, Portland State, Sacramento State, San Diego State, San Francisco, Santa Clara and UC Riverside.

Next, the Wildcats head to Gainesville, Fla., for the Gator Women's Golf Invitational on April 10-11. The event marks the final regular-season tournament before UK heads to the Southeastern Conference Championship held April 16-18 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
