March 15, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team will begin its third tournament of the spring Friday morning in Gainesville, Fla., at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Invitational. The tournament will be held at the par 70, 6,002-yard, Mark Bostic Golf Course.

The Wildcats face tough competition in a field that includes seven fellow Southeastern Conference members. The 17-team field consists of Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Chattanooga, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia State, Kent State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, UCF, USF and Wisconsin.

“This is a great tournament with a competitive field,” said UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “We are looking forward to the challenge ahead and this will also help us prepare for the postseason.”

Kentucky will tee off Friday morning from the 10th tee in nine-minute intervals. Junior Megan Moir will lead off for the Wildcats at 9:45 a.m., followed by senior Ashlee Rose, junior Heather Lott, sophomore Liz Breed and junior Betsie Johnson at 10:21 a.m. All times are Eastern.

Kentucky season average leader, junior Ashleigh Albrecht, will not be in action Friday due to an ankle injury, according to Coach Borst.

The Wildcats are coming off their fifth top-10 finish of the year after a seventh-place finish at the LSU Golf Classic. Johnson led Kentucky in Baton Rouge, La., with a 14th-place finish while shooting a team-high 34 pars on the weekend.

“The team looks really good,” said Coach Borst. “I am confident that if we stick to our game plan and stay with the process we will have a successful weekend.”
