Blackwelder Shoots 73, UK in 13th
Blackwelder began the day in a tie for 46th after shooting a six-over par yesterday, and shot up the leaderboard to a tie for 22nd with today?s one-over round with 18 holes to play.
Kentucky stands in 13th place overall on the team leaderboard shooting a team score of 312. The Wildcats are just eight shots back of slipping into the top-10 of the 17-team field. Florida State stands alone among the teams with a commanding 12-shot lead over second-place Alabama.
Blackwelder?s 73 led the individual scores for the Blue and White today. Senior Elizabeth Dotson fired a 79 to stay in the 70s for the second consecutive day. She sits in a tie along with classmate Beth Felts for 46th overall. Felts carded an 80 in the second round of play today. Sophomore Erica Still brought an 80 into the clubhouse and is tied for 67th overall. Freshman Louise Ljungstedt rounded out the scoring with an 85 and is 88th overall.
This year?s competition consists of 17 teams all of whom are ranked among the nation?s top-70 teams according to Golfweek headlined by the nation?s 10th ranked team Wake Forest. The field also includes: #26 LSU, #14 Alabama, #43 Augusta State, #65 College of Charleston, #13 Georgia, #36 Florida State, #60 Kentucky, #27 Louisville, #66 Mississippi State, #63 Ole Miss, #34 North Carolina, #41 North Carolina State, #40 UNC-Wilmington, #29 South Carolina, #44 Central Florida, #28 Virginia.
The teams will play 18 holes for three days at the University Club. The course is a par-72 that measures in 6,424 yards. Sunday?s round will be a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. CDT.
Play at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic began in 1982, when the original tournament was named LSU-Fairwood Invitational. Host LSU has won the tournament a record seven times in the 26-year history.
