LEXINGTON, Ky. - Through one round at the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, Fla., the University of Kentucky women's golf team sits in ninth place, 13 strokes off the lead. Kentucky finished the opening round with a nine-over-par 297.

Junior Ashleigh Albrecht paced Kentucky through the first round, shooting a one-under-par 71. With two birdies and an eagle, Albrecht finished the day tied for fifth, five strokes off the lead. Albrecht carded an impressive eagle on the 354-yard, par-four ninth hole - the only eagle of the day.

Baylor currently sits in first place after an impressive two-over-par first round. Auburn sits one stroke off the lead, while Augusta State, Tulane and South Carolina round out top five.

Kentucky sunk eight birdies and an eagle on the day, but was hindered by 15 bogies and two double bogies.

"The girls played solid throughout the day," UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. "Unfortunately we let some shots get away from us towards the end."

Senior Ashlee Rose had a consistent first round, sinking one birdie and finishing with a two-over-par 74. Juniors Betsie Johnson and Heather Lott both finished the first round at four-over-par 76. Johnson sunk one birdie while Lott finished her first round with four birdies.

Sophomore Liz Breed shot a five-over-par 77 after nailing three birdies. As an individual, junior Megan Moir shot a seven-over-par 79.

Abnormally cold Florida weather led to the first round being delayed 30 minutes due to potential frost. With a slight breeze, players teed off in 30 degree weather with the high for the day nearly reaching 50.

The UCF Challenge will continue Monday morning with Kentucky beginning to tee off from the first tee box at 9:30 a.m. in nine minute intervals. Moir will begin from the 10th tee box at 11:45 a.m. All times are Eastern.

"We played with great commitment and attitude and if we continue to keep that up over the next two days we will see great things happen," said coach Borst.
