Women's Golf Places Fifth Place at "MO"Morial Invitational
BRYAN, Texas - The University of Kentucky women's golf team completed play at the "MO"Morial Invitational, finishing in a tie for fifth place with a final team score of 37-over par, 901. The Wildcats posted a score of 13-over par, 298 on Wednesday.
"We got off to a better start today overall but unfortunately we couldn't quite hold on," head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. "We struggled early on the back nine and then fought hard to create opportunities for some birdies coming down the stretch. We have a lot more in us and will get back to working hard before we head to Vanderbilt next week."
Tyler, Texas, native Haley Mills started the day in eighth place and on the strength of four birdies, finished the day with a two-under 70 for her best round of the tournament and a fourth-place finish. It marked Mills' third career top 10 finish.
Sophomore Ale Walker shot a four-over 76 to finish at 10-over par 226 for the tournament and finish tied for 20th. It marked the second top 20 finish of her young career.
Junior Cylia Damerau finished the tournament in proper fashion, shooting a birdie on 18 to finish with a six-over 78 on the day and 11-over par, 227 for the tournament, placing her in a tie for 25th.
In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Grace Rose placed 46th with a 17-over par 233, while Megan Kinney finished the tournament with a 235 (+19) to place 50th.
No. 17 Auburn won the team championship with a score of four-under par, 860, while Florida State (+9), No. 19 Texas A&M (+17), Houston (+31), UK and Tulsa (+37) complete the top five. Auburn's Clara Baena and Florida State's Kayla Jones took home the individual title at seven-under par, 209.
Rounding out the rest of the team standings were TCU (+45), Texas San Antonio (+45), Troy (+53), Stephen F. Austin (+70) and Louisiana-Monroe (+89).
