Women's Golf in Fifth Place after Day Two of
BRYAN, Texas - The 30th-ranked (Golfweek) University of Kentucky women's golf team sits in fifth place following the second day of the 2014 "MO"Morial Invitational.
“We got off to a rough start today but we continued to fight and the girls made some birdies coming down the back nine,” head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “We have a lot of golf left to play and I know we are ready to be aggressive and get after it tomorrow.”Sophomore Haley Mills remained in the top 10 at eighth, tallying a 75 on the second day and has a two-round score of 146 (+2). She recovered from a double-bogey on No. 3 with a birdie on the fourth and ninth holes. She will open the third and final round tomorrow only five strokes back of leader Maddie Szeryk (Texas A&M) who carded a seven-under 65 and has a two-round total of 141 (-3).
Junior Cylia Damerau had her best round of the tournament, shooting a two-over 73, turning in a par on 16 of 18 holes. Damerau moved up a spot from 16th and is in a four-way tie for 15th with a 149 (+5) after two rounds.
Sophomore Ale Walker shot a three-over 75 for the second straight day and sits in a tie for 19th with a two-day score of 150 (+6).
Sophomore Megan Kinney finished the round with six-over 78 and is tied for 36th with 155 (+11), while freshman Grace Rose shot a seven-over 79 and is tied for 39th with a 156 (+12).
The Wildcats posted a 302 score and sit two strokes behind Houston for fourth place. The 17th-ranked Auburn Tigers carded a 287 team score and remain in first place.
