UK Completes First Round of NCAA East Regional

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – First round action of the NCAA East Regional concluded Thursday afternoon at the SouthWood Golf Club where the University of Kentucky women’s golf team currently sits in a tie for 15th place at 7-over par, 295. Second round action begins Friday morning at 7:45 a.m. ET.
No. 12 Vanderbilt sits atop the team standings at 11-under par, 277, while Tulane (-8), No. 20 Virginia (-5), No. 2 Duke (-4) and NC State (-2) complete the top five. Tulane’s Emily Penttila is currently atop the individual standings at 7-under par, 65.
Rounding out the rest of the team standings were Texas State (+1), No. 17 UCF (+1), East Tennessee State (+1), No. 14 Pepperdine (+2), Florida State (+2), Campbell (+3), No. 5 South Carolina (+3), No. 8 Stanford (+3), No. 24 Auburn (+5), UK (+7), Louisville (+7), Troy (+8), Baylor (+9), East Carolina (+9), Georgia (+10), College of Charleston (+11), Seton Hall (+14), Murray State (+19) and Alabama State (+27).
“For the most part we played well today,” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “We fought all the way through, but we still need to be able to finish our rounds. We have a lot of positives to take from today, but we will need to make a run at it tomorrow to put ourselves in position for Saturday.”
Senior Liz Breed led the Wildcats in the first round with an even par, 72. Breed will enter Saturday’s second round tied for 28th. Sitting a stroke behind Breed is freshman Haley Mills at 1-over par, 73. After 18 holes Mills is tied for 46th.
Sophomore Cylia Damerau and freshman Alessandra Walker both posted rounds of 3-over par, 75, on Thursday to sit in a tie for 70th. Sophomore Sarah Harris shot a 4-over par, 76, to place her in a tie for 87th.
