Women's Golf Wraps up Regular Season

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Kentucky women's golf team wrapped its regular season with a 13th place finish at the 2012 Bryan National Collegiate Sunday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C. The Wildcats had an 11-shot improvement from the second round, shooting a 10-over-par 298 early Sunday to finish at 47-over-par 911 on the weekend.
Sophomore Liz Breed led Kentucky for a second straight day after matching her second round score of even-par 72. Breed's impressive second and third round scores left her in a tie for 50th at 15-over-par 231.
Duke and Tennessee finished the final round in a tie for first at 18-over-par 882, leading to a playoff on hole 18 that featured each team's five players participating with the top four scores taken. Tennessee shot four pars to claim to first place. With Duke finishing second after the playoff, Florida State finished in third at 25-over-par 889. Ohio State and North Carolina finished in a tie for fourth at 28-over-par 892 on the weekend.
Junior Heather Lott improved five strokes from Saturday, shooting a 3-over-par 75 in the final round. Lott finished up the weekend in a tie for 35th at 11-over-par 227. Junior Betsie Johnson finished her final round with a 3-over-par 75, a six stroke improvement from Saturday. Johnson's team-high eight birdies left her in a tie for 50th at 15-over-par 231.
Senior Ashlee Rose gained nine strokes from the second round, shooting a 4-over-par 76 in the final round of her regular-season collegiate career. Rose finished in a tie for 80th at 24-over-par 233. Junior Ashleigh Albrecht finished the weekend in a tie for 65th after shooting a 7-over-par 79 in the final round.
Kentucky will have a couple weeks off before heading to Fayetteville, Ark., for the 2012 SEC Championship. The Wildcats placed 10th at the 2011 SEC Championship with Johnson leading Kentucky with a 23rd place finish.
