LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore Heather Lott led the Kentucky women’s golf team for the second consecutive day, posting a 2-over par, 74, in Sunday’s final round of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic held at the University Club (par 72, 6,186 yards) in Baton Rouge, La. The Wildcats posted a final-round 34-over par, 322, on Sunday.

Lott, a native of Baton Rouge, paced the Wildcats on Sunday. After bogeying each of her first two holes, Lott regrouped and birdied three of her next six holes to make the turn at 1-under par. Lott, who began her round on the 10th tee, found trouble again on her 10th and 11th holes of the round, but bounced back once more to birdie two of her next three holes after that.

The sophomore finished the LSU Tiger Golf Classic at 12-over par in a tie for 31st out of the tournament’s 111 golfers. Lott recorded eight birdies in total and her eagle in the second round was one of just four among all competitors throughout the three-day event.

As a team, Kentucky finished in 18th place with a final score of 95-over par.

“We struggled as a team today, but Heather Lott really stepped up,” UK head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “I am very proud of Heather. She stayed calm and confident during the last two days. She was able to keep focused on the process and post some good scores for us.”

While the tournament wasn’t Kentucky’s best showing of the season, Borst said the Cats are determined to move forward and improve upon their game in preparation of their final tournament and the Southeastern Conference Tournament.

“We will not let the frustration from this event defeat us,” Borst said. “We will go home and work even harder than we have in the past. This golf course was tough, and we have realized we need to be mentally stronger. We will use this experience to grow and get ready for our next event.”

Following Lott on the Kentucky leaderboard was freshman Liz Breed, who recorded a 9-over, 81, on Sunday. Sophomore Betsie Johnson shot a 10-over par, 82, in the final round, and junior Ashlee Rose carded a 13-over par, 85.

Senior Louise Ljungstedt, who competed as an individual, carded a final round score of 8-over par.

Sophomore Ashleigh Albrecht, Kentucky’s scoring average leader in the spring, did not play on Sunday after withdrawing from Saturday’s second round due to hip and leg injuries.

The Wildcats will take the course again for the final time in the regular season at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga., on the UGA Golf Course from April 1-3.
