Lexington, Ky. – Kentucky women's basketball finished 21st nationally in average attendance according to the official attendance rankings kept by the NCAA. It marked the sixth straight season the Wildcats have ranked in the top 25 nationally and in the Southeastern Conference's top four.
UK Hoops averaged 4,423 fans in 17 home games during the 2008-09 season, including 5,425 fans per game in seven SEC contests. The only SEC schools with higher attendance averages were nationally-ranked Tennessee (1st – 13,999) and Vanderbilt (18th – 4,759).
Kentucky saw a season-high attendance of 6,868 in its 69-59 win over No. 13/19 Tennessee on Feb. 19. It marked the 10th-highest attendance total in Memorial Coliseum history.
“The fan support at Kentucky is like no other place in the country,” UK Hoops Coach Matthew Mitchell said. “Our fans mean so much to us and we know every game, home or away, they will be there for us. There is so much excitement for Kentucky basketball right now and we can't wait for the 2009-10 season to begin.”
