Mathies Named Kentucky Farm Bureau Female High School Athlete of the Year

Lexington, KY - Kentucky women's basketball signee Adia Mathies (AH-dee-ah MATH-is) was named the 2009 Kentucky Farm Bureau Female High School Athlete of the Year. Mathies was honored at the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony on April 29.

The 5-9 senior of Louisville, Ky., also was named Kentucky Miss Basketball, Most Valuable Player of the Houchens Industries Girls' Sweet Sixteen championship, Gatorade Kentucky Girls' Basketball Player of the Year and was the Louisville Courier-Journal's Sixth Region Player of the Year. She averaged 17.1 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.9 steals, 3.8 assists and 1.9 blocks per game while leading Iroquois High School to an impressive 33-1 overall record and the Lady Raiders' first state tournament title.

Mathies, a Full Court Press High School All-American, was ranked as the 13th-best shooting guard in the country and 65th overall player, according to ESPN HoopGurlz.com. She has been a varsity player since the sixth grade and has tallied over 2,800 career points while starting at guard seven consecutive seasons.

She chose Kentucky over Louisville and Florida.
