Head Coach Matthew Mitchell

Opening Statement ...
"Obviously, we didn't play very well tonight and as a coach you feel really badfor all the people that came out tonight to watch us give that kind of effort. We congratulate East Tennessee State because they clearly played harder and wantedto win more tonight. I am really disappointed for all the fans that came outto watch tonight and we will have to do better."

On why he thinks the team didn't play well tonight ...
"We didn't have a good week of practice and we have some players that are bangedup. There was nothing out of the ordinary in practice but we just didn't practicevery strong all week. We were short-handed for most of the week and I think thatwe gave into fatigue tonight. We didn't come mentally ready to play. Even whenwe made our run, those were layups that we generated from our defense. As youcan see in the second half we had several chances to take the lead and we couldn't.I have never been around a team that shoots layups like this one does. I haveto take responsibility to help them shoot layups better. We had a big advantageon the offensive boards, but couldn't make any of that pay off for us."

On the team's injuries ...
"Lydia Watkins will try to play against Louisville Sunday, but Carly Ormerodwill not play. There also might be some others who can't play after this game.Victoria Dunlap was limping at the end of the game because she had a knee problemearlier in the week and she didn't play well today so we will find out how herknee is and go from there."

On what he will do to get the team prepared for Louisville ...
"We will start getting ready and preparing for it just like we do any game. Wewill start getting our focus ready for Louisville. We will see how they practicetomorrow. I'm not happy at all. This is a really poor performance for our team.I am the coach and I will take the responsibility."

East Tennessee State Head Coach Karen Kemp

Opening Statement ...
"I was extremely pleased with our effort tonight because it was something thatwe have been lacking these last few games. I thought we came out with a totallydifferent attitude tonight. From the beginning to the end, I was really pleasedwith the way this team competed. Kentucky is a really good basketball team andwe're really lucky to come out with a win."

On if she thought the team was underestimated ...
"I hope people continue to underestimate us but I don't think they did tonight. As a coach, I know when we have someone come to our place and their record is1-5, we still try to focus on them being a good basketball team. I think Kentucky'scoach didn't underestimate us but sometimes with players they look at that record, step out on the floor and underestimate their opponents. "

On the importance of beating an SEC team ...
"Every win on the road is a good win but a win against a Southeastern Conferenceteam is even better. This was the third year in a row that we beat an SEC teamon the road. It's going to help us with our confidence for the rest of the year.We need to continue to work hard and build on that and it will also help us withour recruiting because people will see that we went to Lexington and upset Kentucky."

On being able to hold Kentucky when they made a run in the second half ...
"When I got my first time out, I told them that basketball is a game of runsand spurts and we can't lose our composure out there. We have to play the typeof basketball that got us to this point. When they cut it to two points, it couldhave been really easy for them to lose their composure because there is a lackof senior leadership on the team. They continued to play to win and not to lose"

East Tennessee State Players
