Quigley Wins Match, Helps Guide U.S. To Win Over Switzerland In Master'U BNP Paribas

Kentucky men’s tennis sophomore Eric Quigley helped lead the No. 1 seeded United States team in the Master’U BNP Paribas to a victory Friday, after defeating Thomas Petrich of Switzerland 6-2, 6-2, at the Stage POITEVIN Tennis Club.
Quigley and his American teammates made quick work of the Switzerland squad, winning the first five points of the best-of-seven semifinal. The semifinal was composed of two women’s single matches, two men’s single matches, a men’s double match, a women’s double match and a mixed-gender doubles match. The Americans swept the men’s and women’s single matches along with winning the women’s double match to beat the Swiss.
Quigley was selected earlier this fall to be one of six college players to play in the tournament, a significant honor for the Pewee Valley, Ky., native. Quigley has had a very successful 2009 fall season for the Wildcats, winning the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship and qualifying for the National Indoors Championships. Quigley is currently, the No. 70 ranked player in the ITA Preseason Division I singles rankings.
